Autonomous Energy installed over 300kW of solar power on the roof of Scentre Group’s cinema extension at Westfield Plenty Valley shopping centre, in Melbourne's northern suburbs. The system was designed by our experienced solar PV engineers and includes DC optimisers to ensure the highest possible performance of each individual panel in the system.

Scentre Group have identified their electricity usage as the most important contributor to their total greenhouse gas emissions. The installation of this solar power system forms an important part of Scentre Group’s ongoing approach to sustainable operation. The construction of the system was integrated with the construction of the cinema, involving the coordination of Autonomous Energy’s staff with a variety of other contractors and tradespeople. The project was fully managed by our experienced project delivery team, to the highest level of Safety, Quality and Performance.

Scentre Group continue to take significant steps towards their goal of over 5MW of onsite, distributed solar generation capacity by 2020. Plenty Valley Shopping Centre is one of 4 Westfield locations contributing towards this solar target.

Autonomous Energy solution

  • Construction of PV system integrated into active construction site of the cinema complex.
  • The initial stages of this complex project involved safely managing and supervising the craning of 4 tonnes of mounting equipment, 20 tonnes of panels and 10 tonnes of BOS components to the roof prior to installation.
  • System features over 1,000 solar panels and includes a weather station for accurate, real time weather monitoring.
  • The data monitoring of the system fully integrates with the shopping centre’s BMS, allowing Scentre Group full visibility of the performance and energy contribution of the solar power system.
  • Monitored online through the SolarEdge portal, including consumption metering.
  • Export limitation was implemented in order to save the client a large application for connection fee.
  • Inverter stand custom built to the requirements of the site to reduce cable runs and assist in maintaining the system.
  • Over 1,000 DC optimisers installed.
