Rooftop Solar PV (Design and Construct)

Over a number of project phases Autonomous Energy has designed, installed and commissioned 413kW of solar power at Pymble Ladies' College (PLC) in Sydney.

The system was installed in a number of phases. The first phase was commissioned in July 2011, and the final phase went live in February 2016. The most significant installation took place in 2015 when Autonomous Energy installed a 200kW system on the roof of the Centenary Precinct.

The total installed capacity of 413kW is broken into the following individual rooftop system sizes:

  • 200kW
  • 60kW
  • 35kW
  • 34kW
  • 31kW
  • 23kW
  • 20kW
  • 10kW

This impressive commercial scale solar power system is part of Pymble Ladies' College dedicated Environmental Management Plan and commitment to sustainability. Pymble Ladies' College is the national leader in the educational sector for implementing sustainable energy measures.

Autonomous Energy solution

  • The system comprises world-record efficiency multi-crystalline PV Solar Panels manufactured by Kyocera.
  •  specialised Solar Data Monitoring system was installed to collect and display a range of data including solar power output from the inverters, sunlight levels, ambient temperature, cell temperature and much more. This data is presented on a customised Online Web Portal.
  • The array is mounted on engineered, solar specific mounting equipment and is connected to SMA three phase inverters via premium quality (USE2 rated) DC solar cabling.
  • The Solar inverters connect to the electricity network via new solar distribution boards and a digital bi-directional CT meter which enables Pymble Ladies' College to use the Solar electricity first and export any excess electricity to the electricity network.
  • This solar power system produces enough energy to power 62 households (per annum) and is the equivalent of removing 94 cars from the road (per annum).

What Pymble Ladies' College says

Pymble Ladies’ College is committed to environmental awareness, sustainability, recycling and carbon emission reduction. As a leading independent school for girls Pymble embraces our responsibility to undertake important sustainability initiatives whilst also engaging the students, staff and the wider community in sharing this responsibility. As a market leader in the field of sustainability Autonomous Energy provided Pymble Ladies’ College with the expertise, experience and counsel that resulted in the successful delivery of a significant solar power system.

In partnership with Autonomous Energy we have commissioned and installed a number of key energy saving initiatives that includes the largest solar panel system in an Australian school, an upgrade to energy efficient lighting and the implementation of a comprehensive energy audit program. Autonomous Energy has been professional to deal with and have provided us with a high level of customer service and quality of work. Pymble’s original plan to install a 16kW solar system was significantly expanded to 60kW and the 115kW following the exploration of the wider benefits of the system for the College and its community. This significant upgrade reaffirms our commitment to this important program and we are keenly aware that our investment in these initiatives will without doubt deliver both short and long term benefits to the College.
