Autonomous Energy has installed solar power across three different buildings at Ascham School in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Phase one was completed in 2014 and involved the introduction of solar power across two buildings. Phase two involved the design, supply and installation of a solar power system to the roof of the Science Centre.
Autonomous Energy was first engaged by Ascham School in 2011 to conduct a campus wide professional energy audit. A wide range of energy efficiency options were identified and detailed investment grade business cases were published in the Energy Audit report. Autonomous Energy has worked closely with Ascham in planning and implementing a number of feasible energy saving projects.
Autonomous Energy solution
- Phase one saw 30kW of solar power installed across the roofs of two buildings.

- The system features innovative panel level optimisation using Tigo optimisers, allowing full system shut down at the panel level via one button – providing optimum safety with the elimination of all hazardous DC voltage at the press of a button. This was a requirement of the electrical specification for this project as the solar PV array will be accessible by staff and students during science classes.
- Significant improvements in solar yield will also be realised due to the integration of Tigo solar optimisers in this design.
- All inverters are manufactured by SMA and all the solar power systems are linked via an online solar data monitoring system.
- All solar engineering and installation works were performed by Autonomous Energy’s in-house teams with no subcontracting. This approach delivers the best quality and safety management outcomes and ensures the best result for the client.
