Autonomous Energy designed, supplied and installed a 88kW solar power system at Southern Cross Care's St Joseph’s Apartments in Tweed Heads. This project is indicative of the great efforts that Southern Cross Care is making to reduce pollution and increase sustainability.
Autonomous Energy solution
- This solar PV system comprises ultra-high efficiency LG NeON solar PV modules. These modules are among the best performing solar modules available in Australia, in terms of actual electricity output in real world conditions – also known as ‘specific yield’ which is measured in kWh/kWp and is the total annual energy generated per kWp installed.
- These high quality, high efficiency panels have excellent salt mist corrosion and wind load properties, and come with a 25 year product warranty.
- The system also features solar-specific engineered mounting frames manufactured in Germany by Schletter and the latest model of inverters from SMA, the world’s leading inverter manufacturer.
- The installation took place across 10 different roof sections and the module string layout was carefully designed to avoid any loss due to mismatch caused by the solar modules being installed at different pitches and orientations.
- A special control system was also installed to ensure that the solar power system works safely with the facilities backup generator, automatically disconnecting the solar PV system from the site’s main switchboard when the generator is active.
- A custom display screen has been set up at the facilities reception desk which shows the solar power system’s power output, emissions reductions and savings in real time. This gives staff, residents and visitors a clear understanding of the solar power system’s benefits and positive environmental impact.
